NY School Calendar is an independent informational website focused on one practical job: making New York school calendars easier to read, compare, print, and use on mobile. Official district PDFs are often hard to scan quickly, especially when parents are trying to plan childcare, travel, after-school programs, or religious holidays. We reorganize public calendar information into cleaner pages built for real day-to-day planning.
What This Site Is For
- Helping parents quickly find first day, last day, holidays, breaks, conference days, and other key school dates.
- Providing printable and mobile-friendly calendar formats that are easier to use than many official source documents.
- Giving context where it matters, such as whether a date is official, projected, district-specific, or subject to change.
- Linking families back to the official school district whenever they need the original source.
How We Build Our Calendar Pages
We compile information from publicly available school district sources, including official district websites, board-approved calendar PDFs, downloadable district calendars, and district announcements. When available, we review the original district document before publishing or updating a page.
Our goal is not to replace the district as the authority. Our goal is to make the information easier to use. That means translating dense calendar documents into clearer layouts, easier scanning, downloadable formats, and pages that work on phones as well as desktops.
If you want a more detailed explanation of how we source, label, and update calendar pages, see our Methodology page.
Official Dates vs. Projected Dates
Not every district releases the next school year's calendar early. When an official calendar has already been published, we label that page as official. When a district has not yet released the next year's document, we may publish a projected calendar based on the district's historical patterns, holiday placement, and New York scheduling norms.
When we do this, we aim to make that status clear on the page. Projected dates are planning tools only and should always be rechecked against the district once the official calendar is released.
What We Prioritize
- Clarity: important dates should be visible without forcing parents to decode long PDF tables.
- Accuracy: we try to work from official district materials whenever possible.
- Transparency: if a page is projected, unofficial, or pending release, that should be stated plainly.
- Usefulness: pages should help with actual planning, not just repeat a list of dates.
Corrections and Updates
School calendars change. Districts revise dates, add closure days, adjust conference schedules, or publish a corrected PDF after the first release. If we learn that a source has changed, we update the corresponding page as quickly as practical.
If you spot an issue on a district page, the fastest option is usually the "Found an error? Report here" link shown on that page. It opens our correction form and can prefill the district name for easier review. The form can also accept supporting screenshots or PDF files. We also accept correction reports by email at hello@nyschoolcalendar.com if that is more convenient for you.
Who Runs This Site
NY School Calendar is a privately operated independent web project. We are not a school district, government agency, or official education department resource. We maintain the site as an informational service for parents, students, educators, and anyone who needs a simpler way to work with New York school calendar data.
Important Disclaimer
NY School Calendar is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE), the New York State Education Department (NYSED), or any individual school district featured on this site. While we strive to publish accurate and clearly labeled information, official school sources remain the final authority. If a date matters for travel, childcare, enrollment, testing, or any other high-stakes decision, verify it with the district directly.
