The district operates 6 elementary schools, 1 middle school, and Rome Free Academy (RFA) — one of the oldest free public high schools in the United States (founded 1847). Rome is also home to the former Griffiss Air Force Base, now repurposed as the Griffiss Business and Technology Park housing Innovare Advancement Center.
The first day is Thursday, September 4, 2025.
Winter Recess: December 22, 2025 – January 2, 2026.
Spring Recess: April 3–10, 2026 (includes Good Friday).
Friday, June 26, 2026.
Rome Free Academy (RFA), founded in 1847, is one of the oldest free public high schools in the US. It serves all Rome CSD high school students.
Fort Stanwix National Monument is in downtown Rome, where the American flag was reportedly first flown in battle (1777). The fort is a major educational and tourism resource.
Griffiss AFB closed in 1995 but was converted into a technology park. The Innovare Advancement Center and the Air Force Research Laboratory's Information Directorate are located there, bringing STEM opportunities to the community.
