Second graders can begin learning string instruments at Cherry Lane Elementary in Carle Place Union Free School District. That early start connects with grade-level orchestras at Rushmore Avenue School, where students in grades 3–6 also take general music and chorus. Band begins in fourth grade, followed by a combined fifth- and sixth-grade concert band; more advanced players can pursue the Rushmore Jazz Ensemble. Music Explorers provides an elementary music class designed for students with special needs.
The district's three-school sequence runs through Cherry Lane, Rushmore Avenue and Carle Place Middle/High School. At the secondary level, the arts department includes band, orchestra and chorus alongside visual-art teaching in photography and ceramics. Rushmore's band lessons take place during the school day; an after-school select choir is also offered for fifth and sixth graders.
