Cortland Enlarged City School District organizes its younger students into grade-level schools: Barry Primary serves kindergarten through second grade, Smith Intermediate serves third and fourth grades, and Randall Middle serves fifth and sixth grades. Students then enter Cortland Junior High for grades seven and eight before continuing into high school. The junior and senior high schools share the Valley View Drive location.
Counseling follows students through these transitions. Each sixth grader completes a transition plan with a school counselor, and postsecondary planning continues in later years. Families can also use the elementary counseling team’s “Handle with Care” message to request support after a difficult morning without explaining private circumstances. Older students have access to regional career and technical education and New Vision pathways through the Onondaga-Cortland-Madison Board of Cooperative Educational Services, including Cortland-based environmental science and medical-professions programs.
