New York’s 2027 Regents examination periods are January 26–29, June 15–25 and August 17–18. The June period includes two dates without state exams: June 18 and June 25. January and June sessions begin at 9:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.; August starts earlier, at 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
January 2027: subjects by day and session
The January period runs Tuesday through Friday. A row can contain more than one exam because different students are assigned different subjects in the same session. It does not require every student to take every exam in that row.
| Date | 9:15 a.m. session | 1:15 p.m. session |
|---|---|---|
| Tue, Jan 26 | English Language Arts | Earth and Space Sciences; Physical Science: Chemistry (NYSP12SLS); Physical Setting/Chemistry |
| Wed, Jan 27 | U.S. History and Government | Algebra I; Physical Science: Physics (NYSP12SLS); Physical Setting/Physics |
| Thu, Jan 28 | Global History and Geography II | Geometry |
| Fri, Jan 29 | Life Science: Biology; Algebra II | No afternoon exam |
The Physical Setting/Physics examination in January is available in restricted form. NYSED lists it separately from Physical Science: Physics. Students should use the exam title on their school’s assigned timetable; the two labels are not interchangeable course names.
June 2027: exam dates and the two rating days
June’s examination period stretches across two school weeks. June 18 is the observed Juneteenth holiday, with a rating day for schools that are open. June 25 is also a rating day. No state examinations are scheduled on either date.
June 21 appears on the state sheet as a suggested date and time for locally developed World Language Checkpoint A or B assessments. It is identified that way below so families do not mistake it for one compulsory statewide Regents exam.
| Date | 9:15 a.m. session | 1:15 p.m. session |
|---|---|---|
| Tue, Jun 15 | English Language Arts | Earth and Space Sciences |
| Wed, Jun 16 | Global History and Geography II | Algebra I |
| Thu, Jun 17 | Life Sciences: Biology | Algebra II |
| Fri, Jun 18 | No state exams; Juneteenth observed. Rating day for schools that are open. | No state exams |
| Mon, Jun 21 | Suggested local World Language Checkpoint A or B assessment | Suggested local World Language Checkpoint A or B assessment |

| Fri, Jun 25 | Rating day; no state exams | No state exams |
August 2027: the sessions start earlier
The August period is Tuesday, August 17 and Wednesday, August 18. Its morning and afternoon start times are 45 minutes earlier than those used in January and June. A family reusing a June reminder needs to change the time as well as the date.
| Date | 8:30 a.m. session | 12:30 p.m. session |
|---|---|---|
| Tue, Aug 17 | Algebra I; English Language Arts | Algebra II; Global History and Geography II |
| Wed, Aug 18 | Earth and Space Sciences; Physical Science: Chemistry; U.S. History and Government | Geometry; Life Science: Biology |
Physics does not appear on the published August 2027 sheet. A subject available in January or June is not necessarily offered again in August. The two chemistry course titles on the January and June sheets do not carry the same August availability; the August sheet lists Physical Science: Chemistry.
Exam start, school arrival and the admission deadline are different times
All times above are local New York times and are the state’s exam-session starts. A school can require students to report earlier for check-in, room assignment or transportation. The assigned school reporting time therefore belongs in the student’s reminder alongside the exam start.
NYSED’s uniform admission deadlines are 10 a.m. for morning exams and 2 p.m. for afternoon exams in January and June. In August they are 9:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Those are admission limits, not recommended arrival times.
For example, a June Algebra I candidate is assigned to the Wednesday, June 16 afternoon session at 1:15 p.m. A student taking Algebra I in August is assigned to Tuesday, August 17 at 8:30 a.m. The same subject moves to a different part of the day, so carrying over the June time would produce the wrong August plan.
Do Regents and rating days mean younger students stay home?
No. The state exam sheet schedules examinations; it does not declare a holiday for every grade. A district can continue elementary or middle-school instruction while older students follow an examination timetable.
Brighton Central School District illustrates the distinction on January 29, 2027. Its calendar identifies a regular school day for K–8 and a superintendent conference/rating entry for grades 9–12. It also lists June 18 and June 25 as rating days with no exams for grades 9–12. Those entries are not a claim that every Brighton child is off on every Regents date.
January 29 still has Biology and Algebra II on the statewide exam sheet. A local rating or conference label is therefore not a reason to disregard a student’s assigned exam. The relevant records answer different questions: the state sheet gives the subject and session, while the district and school timetable determine the student’s required attendance.
For families with siblings in different grades, arrange each child’s day separately. An older student may need one exam session while a younger child has a normal school day. A rating day with no exams also does not, by itself, establish the last day for all students or start summer vacation.
