Valley Central School District serves Montgomery, Maybrook, Walden, and nearby Orange County communities. Berea, East Coldenham, Montgomery, and Walden elementary schools feed Valley Central Middle School and Valley Central High School. The district also operates the Alternative Learning Center at Maybrook.
Elementary learning includes science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics activities within computer and library instruction. Middle school students learn in teaching teams, with advanced English, mathematics, and science available beginning in seventh grade. Selected accelerated courses allow students to earn high school credit before ninth grade. At the high school, Advanced Placement and college-credit classes include both core subjects and electives such as business, art, and music. Students interested in hands-on occupational study can attend career and technical programs through Orange-Ulster BOCES.
